NextStep Recruiting has teamed up with a rapidly growing organization to identify a Clinical IT Support Engineer. This hands‑on role serves as the technical bridge between IT operations and clinical teams, ensuring that medical equipment is properly installed, integrated, and supported across multiple practice locations. The ideal candidate will have a blend of medical device expertise, IT/network infrastructure knowledge, and strong troubleshooting abilities.
This position involves frequent fieldwork, collaboration with internal and external partners, and responsibility for maintaining reliable device performance, data accuracy, and streamlined workflows in patient‑care environments.
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Electronics or related technical field required; Bachelor’s degree in IT, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optometry, or a similar discipline preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in IT support, medical device maintenance, or a similar technical role.
- Hands‑on experience working with ophthalmic equipment from vendors such as Topcon, Zeiss, Optos, Marco, Oculus, or similar (e.g., OCT, fundus cameras, slit lamps, topographers).
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including networking principles, device connectivity, and system security.
- Ability to install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair medical devices and clinical exam lane equipment.
- Experience with network technologies such as DHCP, DNS, VLANs, routing, firewalls, wireless networks, and VPN/IPsec setups.
- Skilled in managing project timelines, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring proper documentation of equipment and configurations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to support clinical users and cross‑functional teams.
- Capable of working independently in the field while delivering excellent customer service.
Preferred:
- Experience integrating medical devices with EMR/EHR systems and digital phoropters.
- Familiarity with device interoperability, data flow troubleshooting, and connectivity standards.
- Background working with Fortinet FortiGate or similar firewall systems.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance guidelines such as HIPAA, FDA/ISO standards.
- Experience improving device workflows, adopting new technologies, or standardizing equipment across multiple locations.
Travel & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel frequently (50%–70%) to support multiple locations.
- Comfortable working in varied conditions, including kneeling, climbing ladders, confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
