NextStep Recruiting has partnered with a growing personal injury law firm to identify a Litigation Trial Attorney in the Merrillville/Lake County, Indiana area. The position will initially work remotely while the local office is established, transitioning to a hybrid schedule of three days onsite and two days remote.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced litigator with a strong courtroom presence who can independently drive personal injury cases from filing through trial. Candidates currently practicing on the defense side are encouraged to consider the opportunity if they are motivated to transition to plaintiff-side advocacy.

Required:

  • 4–7+ years of substantial personal injury litigation experience involving auto, commercial vehicle, or trucking matters
  • Significant first-chair trial experience with demonstrated ability to manage cases from lawsuit filing through discovery, depositions, expert work, negotiation, and trial
  • Hands-on experience with commercial vehicle or trucking litigation and the ability to understand how these matters differ from standard auto cases
  • Experience working with and deposing expert witnesses, particularly non-medical experts
  • Graduate of an ABA-accredited law school with an active Indiana bar license in good standing

Preferred:

  • Strong background managing a substantial litigation docket while supervising or directing legal support staff
  • Experience handling trucking or other complex commercial vehicle trials
  • Federal court litigation experience
  • Established experience with pre-litigation negotiation and case valuation
  • Plaintiff-side experience or, for defense attorneys, a genuine desire to transition to representing injured individuals

Attorneys receive an established pipeline of cases with a controlled caseload, substantial dedicated support, and the resources to spend more time on litigation strategy, trials, and client advocacy. The firm also offers unlimited PTO, significant professional development opportunities, and a compensation structure designed to reward successful settlements and verdicts.

If you are an accomplished trial attorney looking for meaningful courtroom work, strong case support, and the opportunity to take ownership of sophisticated personal injury litigation, we’d like to hear from you.
