NextStep Recruiting is partnering with a confidential accounting firm to identify a Director of Tax & Accounting. This leadership role will oversee daily operations, manage a team of tax and accounting professionals, and ensure exceptional client service. The ideal candidate is a hands-on CPA with extensive tax and accounting expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to independently manage practice operations while supporting continued business growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and oversee a team of tax preparers and accounting professionals, ensuring quality, accountability, and operational efficiency
• Manage daily workflow, client deliverables, deadlines, and overall production across tax and accounting functions
• Serve as the senior technical resource for individual and business tax returns, tax planning, IRS matters, bookkeeping, and financial reporting
• Develop proactive tax strategies and provide advisory services to individuals and business clients
• Partner with firm leadership to improve processes, strengthen client relationships, and support business growth initiatives

Requirements

• Active CPA license required
• 8+ years of progressive tax and accounting experience, including leadership or team management
• Strong technical expertise in individual and business taxation, tax planning, and accounting services
• Proven ability to oversee daily operations, manage client relationships, and lead a team independently
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high level of accountability and ownership
