NextStep Recruiting is working with a growing eCommerce client in Garland that’s leading a full-scale modernization of their platform, and they’re hiring a Lead Ruby Engineer to help drive it forward. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role where you’ll guide architecture decisions, mentor developers, and collaborate across teams (Sales, Accounting, eCommerce) to deliver solutions that move the business. The team is actively transitioning from a legacy monolith to a scalable, service-oriented architecture using Ruby on Rails, microservices, and a Next.js front end. You’ll also play a key role in the company’s AWS migration and infrastructure evolution using Terraform and Docker. Agile is evolving here too, the team is shifting from Scrum to Kanban to keep pace with dynamic business needs. Must-Haves:

• 7+ years of Ruby on Rails experience in high-traffic, transactional environments
• Strong full stack background with modern API architecture (REST/JSON)
• Experience mentoring developers and leading technical initiatives
• Proficient with SQL (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and Linux shell scripting
• Strong communication and ability to collaborate cross-functionally

Preferred:

• Experience with Next.js or other modern JavaScript frameworks
• Familiarity with AWS, Terraform, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to Kanban or adaptive Agile environments
